This highly popular Random Walk gives you an opportunity to visit the vibrant city of Saigon, the French flair of Hanoi, the culture of Hue and an overnight on a Vietnamese boat on scenic Halong Bay.   Also experience a fun evening in Hong Kong at the front end of the program as you gradually acclimate to Asia.  Note that visas will be required for almost all participants.

Preliminary Itinerary*

Friday 8/18 Fly to Hong Kong.
Saturday 8/19 Arrive in Hong Kong in the evening and check into the hotel.  Enjoy the nightlife! Preliminary Hotel: Park Hotel
Sunday 8/20 Half day sightseeing tour of Hong Kong to include Victoria Peak, Aberdeen Marina and a stop at Stanley Market for souvenirs.  Transfer to the airport in the late afternoon for your evening flight to Hanoi. Preliminary Hotel: Pan Pacific Hotel Hanoi
Monday 8/21 After breakfast, the group departs on a boat excursion in Halong Bay. Lunch served onboard.
Tuesday 8/22 Half day sightseeing tour of Hanoi. Find your inner peace at the Temple of Literature; wind your way through ‘The 36 Streets’ to experience local life in the Old Quarter. Flight to Hue in the evening. Preliminary Hotel: Pilgrimage Village
Wednesday 8/23 Sightseeing tour of Hue, the capital of Vietnam for more than 140 years. Visit the Old Imperial City and Imperial Tombs. After tour transfer to airport for flight to Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) still commonly called Saigon. Preliminary Hotel: Pullman Saigon Centre
Thursday 8/24 Travel outside the city to visit the Cu Chi Tunnels. This underground network was an important part of the Viet Cong resistance during the American War. Later return to the hotel and find your next adventure!
Friday 8/25 Travel to Ben Tre and tour the Mekong Delta. Cruise on the Mekong to visit a coconut processing workplace. Ride on a sampan along the canal. Relax with a stroll or bike around the surrounding area. Transfer back to Ho Chi Minh City in the late afternoon for a free evening in the city.
Saturday 8/26 Depart Saigon for Chicago on a morning flight.  Arrive in Chicago mid-afternoon.

  • Hobbies: I read non-fiction books, watch really terrible TV, and enjoy listening to podcasts and going on long runs along the Lakeshore.

    1) I’ve moved into five different apartments in the past five years – I’m an expert packer.
    2) My hometown has a population of about 350 and I had the same 16 classmates from 1st through 12th grade!
    3) I started a mini-record collection a few years ago and I love Hyde Park Records!
