Welcome to the Warren Buffett Club website at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business

Description

The Buffett Group exists to educate students about value investing and Warren Buffett’s investment philosophy and activities through a speaker series, attendance at the Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting, and a visit with Buffett in Omaha. These activities are meant to complement the career oriented activities of the Investment Management Group and provide members with an opportunity to engage with world class investors.

Speaker Series

Speakers during the 08-09 school year included renowned value investors Seth Klarman of The Baupost Group and Jeff Matthews of Ram Partners. Past speakers have included Professor Lubos Pastor, John Harris of Ruane, Cunniff & Goldfarb, Inc. and Henry Berghoef of Oakmark Funds.

In the 2009-2010 speaker series we hope to bring in investors from less obvious corners of value investing such as hedge funds, distressed debt, private equity and real estate in addition to classic equity value investors.

Meeting with Warren Buffett

We have scheduled a visit with Warren Buffett for April 9th, 2010. Due to a record number of requests this year, and in order to fit in as many schools as possible, Mr. Buffett has changed the format from previous years a little bit. This year, he will have 7 Q&A sessions, with 6 schools per session. Each school (including Chicago Booth) can bring 27 students to the session. How the 27 students will be chosen will be determined at a later date but we will most likely not be able to accommodate all members for this trip.

Berkshire Hathaway Annual Meeting

Since the number of seats for the Warren Buffett meeting is very limited we are thinking about organizing a trip to the Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholder Meeting. This is a one day event, when we join the shareholders for a Q&A session with Buffett (the usual format of the annual meeting). We do not need to purchase shares to attend the meeting as student tickets are available at no cost.
